2023 Volume 6 Issue 6 (Published 31 August 2024)

issue_cover_html_6-6Dear colleagues,

With a long-forgotten feeling of deep satisfaction, I'm introducing here the final issue of the 2023 program. The plans are being assuredly fulfilled; the editorial board, authors and reviewers have worked through the summer vacation period with amazing productivity, and all this is further confirmation of the main idea behind the creation of our Journal. The Institute generates a great deal more scientific output than it publishes in relevant journals. Seeing as the Journal encompasses the specifics of our field of knowledge much more fully, and the competency expertise (the very foundation of a good journal) is implemented instantly, in direct collaboration between editors and reviewers, the problem of reaching the designed capacity was a matter of time.

Of course, it is too early to celebrate. It is necessary to complete the current year's program in the remaining time, but the gained momentum and the available reserves that include conference issues add confidence in our eventual success. Naturally, we're hoping for an increase in the authors' activity at the final stage. I have made my contribution to the conference issue dedicated to the 70th anniversary of INEOS RAS and the 125th anniversary of A. N. Nesmeyanov in the form of an essay-review on the historical legacy of Alexander Nikolaevich against the backdrop of a changing era and in the context of changing directors. The work has not yet been reviewed, and it is too early to advertise it, but by the very fact of my direct participation in the anniversary issue I would like to invite veterans to also share their memories of the formation and development of any scientific directions that had been touched by the genius of our founder.

Setting aside the matter of issues release schedule, the remainder of the year will be brimming with anniversary events. The academic board of Moscow State University held a ceremonial session dedicated to the 125th anniversary of A. N. Nesmeyanov. The rector of Moscow State University, full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences V. A. Sadovnichiy, in his speech commemorating the date, reminded those gathered of the role of Alexander Nikolaevich in the construction of the MSU complex on Leninskie Gory. He also noted that the complex is currently undergoing a major reconstruction, to be completed in 2027, after which the complex will once again become the country's model education center for the next 20–30 years.

INEOS RAS will enter the anniversary celebrations on September 10, starting with the traditional young scientists' poster session, which will be held with a special sense of reverence this time. Then, the celebrations will continue during the Nesmeyanov Conference and the Nesmeyanov January Days. All these events will be densely packed with new scientific achievements, addresses, heated discussions and debates, contemplations on the paths traveled and plans for the future.

This is, after all, the whole point of celebrating such dates. For there is nothing more important and treasured for any scientist than the continuation of his or her work, the development of his or her ideas. And here's another point of interest: new students of Alexander Nikolaevich continue to appear even after his premature departure. Such is the amazing privilege of great people—their ideas and heritage keep on inspiring followers who continue and further develop what was once started. My prediction is that, by the end of this celebration season, the ranks of Alexander Nikolaevich's students will be replenished with many new gifted names.

Sincerely yours,
Editor-in-Chief
Prof., Full Member of RAS
