Dear colleagues,
I am delighted to inform you that the third issue of INEOS OPEN is being published as scheduled. This testifies the strict periodicity and stability of our joint work. Summer is a conference season for us, and in this respect, I would like to mention the Conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of I. L. Knunyants, the full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union, which was successfully held at INEOS RAS. I was not fortunate enough to attend it personally, but the warm feedback from the respected colleagues of I. L. Knunyants, for example, the full member of the Russian Academy of Sciences I. P. Beletskaya, is invaluable.
Another important scientific event, in which our Institute is actively involved, is the Conference Cluster "Organoelement Compounds – 2026" (https://cluster.chem.msu.ru/) dedicated to the chemistry of silicon, germanium, and tin. The silicon component is represented by the Second Russian–Chinese Symposium on Green Chemistry and Technology of Organosilicon Polymers and Materials and the scientific school "Chlorine-Free Chemistry of Silicones", the topics of which are primarily focused on the Andrianov direction of siloxane and metallosiloxane chemistry. The conference organized by M. G. Voronkov and his colleagues traditionally focused on the structural and kinetic aspects of the chemistry of silicon, germanium, and tin, as well as the biologically active properties of these compounds. It undeservedly disappeared from the scientific calendar after the passing of M. G. Voronkov himself and his most prominent followers, who dispersed to near and far abroad. According to the recommendation of the Scientific Council on Organic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, now the corresponding member of RAS M. V. Bermeshev and Professor S. S. Karlov, the dean of the Chemistry Department of Moscow State University, took on the task of reviving the Conference. Tthe full member of RAS M. P. Egorov took over the whole Cluster leadership. To restore the full range of research fields related to the chemistry of group IV elements, the only thing missing is the conference on silicon and carbon chemistry, which was initiated in the USSR by the full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Soviet Union S. S. Nametkin. Therefore, restarting of this conference is also imminent. It should be noted that the revival of the entire Organosilicon Cluster is a necessary element for realizing the Strategy for Development of the National Silicon Complex, presented at the meeting of the Scientific Council on Organic Chemistry of RAS.
Returning to the Conference Cluster, I would like to invite the authors and readers of our Journal to actively take part in it. The Cluster is a good opportunity for researchers to choose the direction and format of participation they would like to prefer and gain a theoretical boost before a new experimental cycle in their practical work. This is especially valuable for young scientists and graduate students, who need to evaluate the relevance of their research in light of the main trends in the field, which will be presented at round tables and multiple discussions during the Conference. Given that the majority of the program committee members are also the members of the Advisory Board of our Journal, it seems natural that the best reports and presentations will be recommended for publication in INEOS OPEN.
